GH's Phelps on Braun's Exit

GH has found a new Carly - Jennifer Bransford- but here, Executive Jill Farren Phelps address the loss of Tamara Braun. "All I'll say on that is how sorry we are to see Tamara go, and how incredibly gracious she has been in the face of ll of this." notes Phelps. "[Her] life had to come first, so understand that, we will go on. Hopefully, we'll make a good choose, but replacing Tamara is going to be very difficult."

It's a situation with which the exec is familiar: Carly's originator, Sarah Brown (ex-Julia, ATWT), was vacating the role when Phelps first came on aboard GH in 2001, and she took flak from both fans and press alike on he choice to recast. "Sarah was a touch act to follow," Phelps acknowledges. "I was new here, and there were so many things to be afraid of that at that particle point, I just chose not to be afraid of that. I felt that the character was too critical to the story. It was something we couldn't afford to lose. There's probably a handful of actors in all of daytime that you simply can't recast, and then [with] other things, we have to give it your best shot." As for fan reaction Phelps remains optimistic. "We anticipate that the audience is going to have, as they did with Tamara, a reaction, and that change is something they will gradually accept. We don't expect them to say, on day one, "Wow!"... but I've seen it happen over and over again, and [I believe] they will eventually accept a new Carly, especially if Maurice is determined to make it work. When Maurice is determined to make something work, we can all count on the fact that it will work."

All I can say is Jill is full of it...because when Sarah left she was not kind...and I am optimistic(sp??) on her words about Tams' departure. I really don't believe Jill likes the character Carly...that is just my opinion.
