Braun "Emotionally" Hit By Quickie Recast: "Carly's No Longer Mine"

It wasn't easy for Tamara Braun to walk away from GENERAL HOSPITAL and the character that made her a household name amongst daytime fans. Now, as Jennifer Bransford (ex- Georgie, One Life To Live) steps in as her immediate replacement as Carly on Monday, April 15, Braun graciously steps aside and offers her support to the new gal in town.

The In Depth Story: Braun, who has decided to leave GH and last airs as Carly on Friday, April 15, says with a sigh, "The Role is no longer mine." Still, she must acknowledge the show's need to recast (if not, perhaps why so quickly). "I am emotionally and personally attached to this role, but you have to remember that it is a character that I played, a character someone else played before me and a character that someone will play after me.

"I'm proud of what I've done with Carly in the past four years," Braun declares. "I'm proud of what I had to had to overcome."

Even so, she admits, "It's weird to think that somebody else is going to be [playing Carly]. But it's necessary/ So what I feel about it is neither here nor there. They have a job that they have to do, which is to fill this role, because it's what they fell is best for the show. They need to do that, and I'm going to support them in doing that. And I'm going to support the next person who comes in to fill this role, because I know what it's like to walk into that situation. I know what it's like to be that girl. It's not easy. But you have to do your job and focus on your task at hand."

As Braun was nearing her final tape date, the industry was abuzz that her role was being recast, and names even were prematurely being bandied about, making her work situation awkward, to say the least. Thankfully, she took it all in stride. "It's business," Braun says, blowing off all the hubbub. "If an actress is going to possibly leave, you have to be smart and say, 'If this person chooses not to say, and this is a character that we want to have, let's looking at our options,' Of course they're going t look at actresses to possibly play the role. They have to look out there and say, 'Who can we bring in? Who has a following from another show? Who has an essence similar to Tamara's?'

"That's just business," she reiterates. "I respect that. They need to protect themselves if the character is important to them."

I just want you to know that I wish you the best of luck in whatever journey you take in your acting career. I can't wait to see you in other films and shows. I have been a General Hospital watcher for almost eleven years, I have been through all the Carly's and you by far are my favorite, you added your own spark and flare to the show and I will miss you. I just wish I could of met you to tell you in person what a great job you did do!
