''Very Difficult'' Recast Ahead!
Going, going, Braun!
As reported in the next ABC Soaps In Depth, on sale Tuesday, Tamara Braun soon will tape her final scenes for GENERAL HOSPITAL — on Wednesday, March 23, we have since learned, to air Friday, April 15. As such, the show is working hard to find the right actress to step in as Carly.
GH executive producer Jill Farren Phelps, in an interview at an on-set party for GH's 42nd anniversary, acknowledges "how sorry we are to see Tamara go and how incredibly gracious she has been in the face of all of this. Understanding that, we will go on — that's what we do — and, hopefully, we'll make a good choice [for Braun's successor].
"But replacing Tamara," she laments, "is going to be very difficult."
Braving a Carly switch is familiar territory for Phelps, who took the GH helm not long before Sarah Joy Brown ceded the role to Braun in spring 2001. "Sarah was a tough act to follow," the exec recalls, "but I was so new here and there were so many things to be afraid of that, at that particular point, I chose not to be afraid of that [recast]. The character was too critical to the story and something we could not afford to lose."
Be sure to pick up the newest ABC Soaps In Depth to see what Braun herself is thinking as her GH send-off nears.
