GH To Braun: Let's Make A Deal
By Devin Owens, Tara Shaffer, and Stephanie Sloane
GH's Tamara Braun (Carly) says that she is currently negotiating her contract with the show she has called home since 2001- but she isn't saying much else. "Until decisions have been made, out of respect for my employers, I think it's best that [I don't comment]," Braun explains.
"When a decision has been made, I will contact you guys. We're talking, though."
At a recent fan club event in New York City, the first question fans asked was about Braun's future with the show. "Well, we've gone straight to the contract question," the actress laughed. "The answer is, there's been no decision yet and I have to kind of leave it at that."
For months, there have been whispers that the actress would leave GH to pursue prime-time and film when her contract expires this year. Braun has already signed on with Hollywood reps, and word has it that they have urged her to check out of the HOSPITAL. However, insiders reveal that since ABC has started the contract talks, the actress has been rethinking her departure.
"Tamara is in a great place to negotiate, and she knows it," claims one. "GENERAL HOSPITAL cannot afford to lose her, and everybody involved knows that. Tamara is not only a great actress she's a smart actress; I'd bet money that she stays." Another insists that ABC is "Very serious" about keeping Braun and "is doing whatever it takes to make it happen."
Whether or not Braun re-signs, GH has no intention of losing Carly." Whatever decision Tamara makes is obviously her decision," Head Writer Charles Pratt, Jr. states. "But the character of Carly isn't going anywhere. Sonny without Carly is likes salt without pepper." Adds Head Writer Robert Guza, Jr.," We cannot imagine ever having to write this show without Carly."
